The CoD series

So I've been playing the CoD series since CoD 2 up until Black Ops, and now I've noticed that the series really becoming mashed together.

Since CoD 3, which introduced the new engine (but was critically received as a terrible game) that all the following games have used, the gameplay itself hasn't advanced at all, actually everything after CoD4 has seemed to get worse, every game has less complexity, and more simplified controls. At modern warfare 2, PC players lost the ability to lean, mod support, custom configs and the developer console, and every game since seems to just be more and more dumbed down. Is Activision aiming to market the series towards toddlers? Because that's how simple and straightforward they seem to be trying to make the game.

Was Call of Duty 4 the last real, original CoD game?

The series is turning from awesome competitive first person shooter, into an interactive movie. Even the multiplayer maps seem to be becoming incredibly linear, and everything from CoD5:WaW to the most recent CoD:BO has featured nothing new to the game, other than different setting, story, weapons and killstreaks, it's like every game is just a different episode of the one game.
